Renewable Energy Conference

Kenai Peninsula Association for Renewable Energy, KDLL Public Radio FM 91.9, Alaska Wind Industries and the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center will present a day-long conference with speakers and demonstrations relating to renewable energy on Saturday, February 20, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend for all or any part of the conference.

Speakers and guests include:

10:00 am—Erik Schreier, Research Engineer for K.P.A.R.E. speaking on the organization’s partnership with NOAA on renewable energy including wind data studies;

10:30 am—Ted Eller, Ionia, Inc with a presentation on solar heat and their wind met tower;

11:00 am—Chad Stovall from the USDA, speaking about the USDA’s 25% Business Grant for renewable energies;

11:30 am—Karen Cress of Alaska Warm Wood and Heating, speaking on efficient and alternative heating systems;

12:15 pm—Kat Keith of the Wind Diesel Application Center, speaking on Wind for Schools in Kenai;

1:00 pm—Denali Daniels of the Denali Commission, discussing progress on renewable energy funding;

1:45 pm—Joe Gallagher and Brad Hibberd of Homer Electric Association, on HEA’s renewable energy projects and net metering;

2:30 pm—Nadia Daggett, Alaska Wind Industries turbine installer, speaking on proven energy and direct heating;

4:00 pm—Erik Schreier, Alaska Wind Industries systems designer, answering the question, “How do I get a turbine at my house?” the how-to step, by step process

Additionally, interns from Caring for the Kenai, and Kenai Resilience members will be joining us during the conference.

A suggestion donation of $2 per person for admission will go to support an audio tour of local renewable energy projects. Catering will be provided by Two Sisters Bakery of Homer, and Veronica’s in Kenai.
