“Harvesting the History of Work”

Come see the collaborative exhibit  in conjunction with Kenai Peninsula College students, opening on March 30th from 6-8pm with a reception. The aim is to represent various modes of work experienced by Central Kenai Peninsula residents and their relatives with an integration of contemporary art and historical artifacts. Eventually, a permanent display at the center will tell a story from perspectives that we hope are both diverse and representative. This is part is a series of an award winning student learning project program!

Exhibit runs until May 19th.

“Alaska 2012: A Celebration of Wildlife Art”

The summer long exhibit this year will be an even bigger display than ever of some of the most sought after and top-notch artists in the genre. Opens June 1st with a Gala reception, 6-9pm, and runs through September 3rd.

TODAY IN ALASKA HISTORY
May 17, 1906 - Congress passed the Alaska Native Allotment Act authorizing the Secretary of the Interior to allot 160 acres to Alaska Natives. The land would be inalienable and non-taxable. Administrative interpretations of the law, however, would limit the number of Natives qualifying for the land for nearly three-quarters of a century.
